Meeting Date: December 13, 2018

Sam Hood
Speaker: Sam Hood

Topic: "Confederates Once, American's Twice; Former Confederates and the Rebuilding of Postwar America"

The presentation will focus on former Confederate soldiers and civil servants who, after the war, accomplished much in the areas of education, government, military, science, philanthropy, and the arts.

Sam’s research has identified former Confederates serving in hundreds of positions of influence and authority including U.S. Supreme Court justices, U.S. Senators and members of the House of Representatives, ambassadors, cabinet secretaries, captains of industry, and—yes—U.S. Army generals. This is just a sample of the role played by former Confederates after 1865.
